Hokies Pick Up Big Wins On the Court, Mat and In the Pool
Good Morning, Tech Fam. Yet another reminder that #HokieNation is the absolute best.
What else are we covering in today’s edition, Hokies?
🏀 Super Saturday
🤼 A Fine Arts Masterpiece
🏊 STATEment Made
🦃 And much, much more!
🔼 Super Saturday. After a midweek trip to Texas, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team returned to Cassell Coliseum with authority, rolling past visiting Notre Dame, 89-76 in front of a sold out crowd.
The dynamic duo of Tobi Lawal and Amani Hansberry dominated the Fighting Irish in the paint, both finishing with 20+ points in the win.
Lawal notched his fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Hansberry finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Ben Hammond (16) and Jailen Bedford (14) both tallied double-figures as well for the Hokies.
🔼 A Fine Arts Masterpiece. There seemed to be no better location for a masterpiece than a sold-out Center for the Arts on Friday night for the seventh-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling squad.
In one of wrestling's most unique experiences, the Hokies put on quite a show in their annual dual on stage with a 39-0 victory over visiting App State.
The Hokies won all ten bouts against the Mountaineers with six coming by way of bonus point and winning both ranked bouts including an upset victory by Jaden Bullock over #25 Tomas Brooker to highlight the evening.
🔼 STATEment Made. Now that’s how you celebrate your seniors!
On a day the Virginia Tech men’s swimming & diving squad honored their seniors, the Hokies celebrated with a upset win over #21 Virginia, 157-104, on Saturday.
Leading the way were junior Brendan Whitfield logged three first-place finishes in the 50 free (19.12), 100 free (43.52) and 200 free (1:33.42), and sophomore Eli Martin placed first in the 100 breast (51.93) and 200 breast (1:57.38).
