Good morning, Tech Fam. You’re going to want to watch these highlights over and over and over. What a performance by Mr. Dauzier!

What all are we covering in today’s edition, Hokies? Check it out below!

⚽️ STATEment Made
⚾️ Eye On The Prize
🏊 Pool Partying
✍️ And much, much more!

🔼 STATEment Made. The first point in the 2026 edition of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash belongs to the Hokies.

On a gloomy Friday night in Charlottesville, Virginia Tech men’s soccer used an unreal performance from Diego Dauzier and two early goals to claim a 2-1 victory over Virginia, their third-ever victory at Klöckner Stadium.

Alvaro Ruiz-Mateos and Luke Hamel both found the back of the net in the opening 23 minutes of the game and then Dauzier and the Hokie defense did the rest with Dauzier making six saves on the night, including several highlight reel worthy ones.

🔼 Eye On The Prize. Former Hokie standout Ian Seymour and his Tampa Bay Rays teammates have their eyes on the prize as the MLB postseason action is heating up.

The southpaw earned a spot on the ALDS roster for Tampa Bay after setting career-highs in appearances (47), wins (9), innings pitched (132.2) and strikeouts (158).

In Saturday’s series opener with the Yankees, the Rays pulled out a 1-0 victory and will look to take a 2-0 series advantage tonight at 8:05 on TBS.

🔼 Pool Partying. Now that’s how you get a season started!

The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2026-27 season in dominant fashion taking on Liberty (women only), Penn State and West Virginia (men only).

The women’s squad cruised to a 312-41 win over Penn State and a 240-113 win over Liberty. On the men’s side, the Hokies earned two huge wins over Penn State (265.50-87.50) and West Virginia (264-89).

The Hokies shined on both sides and posted several nationally-ranked top 15 times.

🔼 Charting The Course. Virginia Tech cross country turned in a dominant two-meet weekend, highlighted by team victories on both the men’s and women’s sides at Friday’s Fire Tower Project in Boone, N.C.

The Hokie women swept the top five scoring positions, led by Jule Lindner, who won the 6K in her season debut at 20:31.8. The men were nearly as dominant, behind George Couttie’s 8K victory in 23:55.4. Nixon Kosgei took second in his Hokie debut.

On Saturday, Tech carried that momentum into Saturday’s East Coast Elite Fast Times Invitational in Salem, where Virginia Tech athletes collected several more podium finishes. Carter Johnson delivered the headline performance for the men, winning the 8K in 25:48.0 to earn the first podium finish of his collegiate career. On the women’s side, Hokies took the top three spots, led by Nicole Dunbury, who won the 5K in 17:24.3.

🦃 INVEST TO WIN

Virginia Tech Athletics has announced the next step in Invest to Win, while establishing the Investors Society, an exclusive group of dedicated supporters whose commitment to Hokie Athletics is helping advance the Invest to Win campaign and shape the future of Virginia Tech Athletics.

As Virginia Tech continues to build upon the Invest to Win campaign, the Investors Society will play an integral role in advancing strategic athletics priorities, matching the ambition of an athletics department that wants to position itself amongst the nation’s best, including expanding premium seating options for fans and enhancements to The Virginia Tech Gameday Experience.

Through the Invest to Win campaign, Virginia Tech is committed to building an athletics department that consistently competes on the national stage. That requires a financial model capable of supporting championship-level expectations. Virginia Tech is not waiting to see where the future of college athletics goes; we are investing in where we believe Virginia Tech Athletics belongs.
