🔼 Workin’ Overtime. Freshman Neoklis Avdalas continued his torrid start to his collegiate career, pouring in 33 points to lead four Hokies in double-figures in a thrilling 107-101 overtime victory over the Providence Friars.

Jailen Bedford (18), Amani Hansberry (17), Tyler Johnson (12) and Jaden Schutt (10) all scored in double-digits in Saturday’s win in at the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Event.

🔼 Opening Act. The 10th-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team defeated a scrappy Bucknell squad, 19-12, in the home opener in Cassell Coliseum on Friday night.

The Hokies were propelled by six wins including upset victories by No. 20 Tom Crook over No. 14 Dylan Chappell and No. 23 Sergio Desiante over No. 20 Myles Takats.

Tech won the first four opening bouts thanks to No. 4 Eddie Ventresa, No. 18 Dillon Campbell, Crook, and Noah Nininger.

Campbell continued his bonus point streak from last weekend with another major decision – a 16-2 throttling over Ty Kapusta. The victory marks the redshirt freshman’s fifth-straight bonus point victory.

🔼 Locking It Down. The Virginia Tech women’s hoops squad turned up the defense and locked down visiting Loyola Maryland on Sunday, grinding out a 64-48 low-scoring battle to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

It was the first time since last Dec. 21 that the Hokies held an opponent to under 49 points in a game.

Carleigh Wenzel led the squad with a season-high 18 points and six rebounds, while Mackenzie Nelson dished out a career-best 11 assists in the win. Carys Baker (17 points) and Kayl Petersen (10 points) were the other two Hokies in double-figures.

🔼 Finishing Strong. The Virginia Tech cross-country teams wrapped up their home schedule Friday at the Hokie Open.

Highlighting the meet was Declan Decambre’s first win of the season and several career-best performances at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.
