🔼 Cassell Defenders. The Virginia Tech women’s hoops squad got things started early and often on Wednesday night at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.

Hosting Presbyterian, the Hokies jumped out to an 8-0 advantage and never looked back, rolling to a dominant 92-36 home victory. It marks their ninth win in their past 11 home games dating back to last season.

Once again, a balanced attack was on display with 11 different players scoring at least four points in the contest. Leading the way was Samyha Suffren, who came off the bench to tie a career-high with 17 points.

🔼 Bigger Than Basketball. Sometimes, it’s more than just a game.

For the fourth year in a row, the Virginia Tech basketball programs are teaming up with Carilion Children’s to fight pediatric cancer. Players and coaches from the men's and women's teams will partner with Carilion Pediatric Hematology-Oncology patients, getting creative to raise pediatric cancer awareness.

More than 25 children and teens will paint custom shoes for coaches and basketball staff to wear later this season. Players and coaches will design the footwear with the children and their families at Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center on Monday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The women's basketball coaches and staff will wear their specially designed sneakers at the Sunday, Jan. 11, game against Boston College in Cassell Coliseum. The men's basketball coaches and staff will wear their sneakers on Saturday, Jan. 31, when the Hokies host Duke.

🔼 Going Hamm. Junior pole vaulter Maddox Hamm isn’t waiting anytime making his presence known this year for the Virginia Tech track & field program.

After a record-breaking performance in the season opener this past week, Hamm was named the ACC Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week.

Hamm opened his season at the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 5, winning the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 5.70 meters (18 feet, 8 1/4 inches). The mark broke the Virginia Tech indoor program record and placed him No. 1 on both the 2026 NCAA Division I indoor qualifying list and the ACC indoor performance list.
