🔼 Schutt ‘Em Down. Make that home win streak five as the Virginia Tech men’s hoops squad rolled past previously unbeaten George Mason, 73-62, on Saturday afternoon at Cassell.
With the win, the Hokies move to 8-2 on the year, the best start since 2022-23.
Leading the way against the Patriots, Jaden Schutt connected on a career-high six 3-pointers en route to a season-high 18 points.
Amani Hansberry had himself a very efficient, all-around impact for Tech, notching 15 points on 70-percent shooting, seven boards, and career highs in rebounds and steals, with six and three, respectively. His frontcourt mate, Tyler Johnson, was an unsung hero for the Hokies, hitting five of his seven shots for 13 points and denying two shots on the defensive end.
🔼 Raising The Bar. Now that’s how you start a season!
The Virginia Tech track & field programs started the 2025-26 indoor season off in record-setting fashion with two Hokies breaking program records on opening weekend.
Maddox Hamm got things started at the Liberty Kickoff setting a new indoor pole vault record, both at Virginia Tech and the ACC, of 18’ 8 1/4” to win the event. Fellow vaulter Chiara Sistermann won the vault on the women’s side as well.
On Saturday, George Couttie etched his name atop the 3000m list at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. He claimed second place with a career-best time of 7:36.74. His stellar finish, separated by just 0.03 seconds from Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona, solidified his position as the program record holder. This performance also earned him a spot in the NCAA all-time rankings at No. 9.
🏈 A NEW ERA IN BLACKSBURG
The 2026 recruiting class has officially taken shape in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech Football welcomed 22 recruits last week, the product of an unwavering recruiting effort spearheaded by first-year head coach James Franklin and his staff.
The Hokies, who now find themselves with a nationally ranked top-25 recruiting class for the first time since 2019, landed eight four-star prospects—tied for the most-ever in program history (2019). Franklin now owns a 13-year streak of top-25 classes.
