Hokies Roll Past Virginia in Smithfield Commonwealth Clash
Good Morning, Tech Fam. Say it louder for the people in the back 🗣️🗣️🗣️
What else are we covering in today’s edition, Hokies?
🏀 Making A STATEment
🤼 Pack It Up
👏 Three’s Company
🦃 And much, much more!
🔼 Making A STATEment. Using a decisive second-half effort, Virginia Tech women’s hoops rolled to a 76-64 victory over Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies have now won seven straight games and 13 games inside Cassell Coliseum, a single-season high under head coach Megan Duffy.
Leading the way for Virginia Tech was Carleigh Wenzel, who poured in a game-high 23 points, while dishing out five assists and grabbing six rebounds. She has now scored in double-figures in seven consecutive games.
Backcourt mate Mackenzie Nelson chipped in 15 points and five assists, while Samyha Suffren (12 points, five rebounds) and Carys Baker (11 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Hokies.
🔼 Pack ‘Em Down. This one lived up to the hype.
In a showdown billed as one of the best rivalries in college wrestling, the seventh-ranked Hokies battled their way past #8 NC State on Friday night to hand the Wolfpack their first home loss since 2019.
In a dual that saw Tech extend the win streak over NC State to three-straight, Hokies won six of ten bouts with two coming by way of bonus and a signature win for freshman Collin Gaj over a top five opponent.
Virginia Tech Football’s 2026 Spring Game presented by Eagle Construction
is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, with an afternoon kickoff time to be determined.
The game will be free admission and open to the public.
🔼 Three’s Company. Add another one to Katrin Brzyskowska’s resume.
Taking on competition at the Brant Tolsma Elite Invitational at Liberty, Brzyskowska and Kelsey Lovercheck each earned event victories for the Virginia Tech track & field squad.
It was Brzyskowska’s third shot put win of the season with a throw of 15.92 meters (52’ 2.75”). Lovercheck secured her first career event win in the pole vault, clearing a season-best 3.79 meters (12' 5.25").
🤔 HOKIE TRIVIA
Third-ranked Eddie Ventresca started off the win over #8 NC State in a big way, taking down defending national champion Vincent Robinson.
After that victory, what is Ventresca’s career record against Robinson?
