Hokies Set To Take On Wake Forest In Opening Round of ACC Tournament

The madness has arrived. Tourney time is here.
Today, the Virginia Tech men’s hoops squad begins its journey at the 2026 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
First up for the Hokies, is a first round date with Wake Forest at 7 pm on the ACC Network. The winner advances to tomorrow night to meet fifth-seeded Clemson at 9:30 pm.
🔼 Immediate Impact. It didn’t take long for Virginia Tech men’s hoops forward Amani Hansberry to make an impact with the Hokies.
In his first season with the Hokies, Hansberry started all 30 of his appearances in maroon and orange. The team’s leading scorer, he has averaged 14.3 points per game with an efficient 49.2% field goal percentage. His 7.4 rebounds per game rank tenth in the conference and the Silver Spring, Maryland native’s eight double-doubles rank fourth amongst ACC athletes.
🔼 Record Breaker. Junior Ashton Harper of the Virginia Tech men’s golf squad had quite a start to his stay at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, firing a school record 63 in his opening round.
The Roanoke, Va., native followed it up with a 2-under in the second round to sit atop the leaderboard by two strokes after the first two rounds of the event.
🔼 Back At Home. With three of its past three opponents ranked in the top-20 nationally, the Virginia Tech lacrosse squad has certainly been tested early in the 2026 season.
The Hokies return home this afternoon to welcome Queens University of Charlotte to Blacksburg, where Tech is 3-1 so far this season.
First draw at Thompson Field is set for 3 pm.
🔼 Making Waves. Sophomore Levente Balogh of the Virginia Tech men’s swimming squad made some waves in his final showing of the year.
Competing at a Last Chance Meet in Blacksburg, Balogh set a new 200 back pool record (1:39.65). In addition, two of his teammates, Oscar Bilbao and Tanish George Matthew, both earned top-ten times on the weekend.
🤔 HOKIE TRIVIA
Today marks the fourth time that Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have faced off in the ACC Tournament with the Hokies winning the previous three meetings.
The last postseason meeting between the two schools came in the 2017 ACC Tournament (Tech 99, Wake 90). Who led the Hokies in scoring in that victory?
