🏈 THE ROTH REPORT: SPRING GAME PRIMER

Pack the cooler, fire up the grills and get ready for a big weekend in Blacksburg.

Our first look at the 2026 Hokies is just around the corner. Virginia Tech’s Spring Football Game, presented by Eagle Construction kicks off at 3 p.m. on April 18 and ordinarily there would be a few key areas to watch in a typical spring game for all of us. But this year? Well, we need to watch everything.

James Franklin’s first Virginia Tech team makes its Lane Stadium debut in the 2026 Spring Game on April 18.

Not only are there dozens of new players, coaches, analysts and advisors in Tech’s program, but the returning players who have redefined and reshaped their bodies since Tech’s last game back in November have a renewed hunger.

🔼 Young Gun. The future of Virginia Tech softball program is in great hands.

Part of that future earned national headlines this week as Bree Carrico was named the D1Softball National Freshman of the Week for the 12th-ranked Hokies.

In 11.0 innings of work, Carrico posted an ERA of 0.00, allowing an opponent batting average of just .029 with 16 strikeouts.

🥎 The Remaining Softball Schedule

🔼 Slingin’ It. It was quite a dominant week in the circle for the 12th-ranked Virginia Tech softball program.

With the Hokies going 5-0 last week, Tech hurlers allowed just three earned runs, which led to a pair of weekly accolades from the ACC.

Bree Carrico and Emma Mazzarone were tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week and ACC Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

🔼 Second Helpings. Senior men's golfer Balthazar Duclos finished up a strong week at the Blacksburg Country Club on Tuesday, grabbing a second-place individual finish at the Appalachian Collegiate.

Duclos finished at 2-over for the three rounds, just one shot off the winner. Teammates Ryan Slonaker (fifth) and Aiden Patel (seventh) both had strong showings as well.
