🔼 Ben’s Back. Another Hokie is coming back for more.

On Thursday, Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Mike Young announced that guard Ben Hammond will be returning to the squad for his junior season in 2026-27.

Hammond stepped up his play in his second season in Blacksburg, starting in 18 of 32 games and leading the Hokies in scoring in ACC play at 14.9 ppg. The sophomore guard saw his numbers increase in 2026 in all categories as he led the team in minutes played, 3-point field goal percentage and was amongst the league leaders in free throw shooting (fourth at 86.5%), assist to turnover ratio (tenth at 2.2) and steals (second at 2.0).

🔼 Commonwealth Clash. In one of the most highly-anticipated matchups of the season, the 12th-ranked Virginia Tech softball team shoots over I-64 to square off with #21 Virginia in a critical three-game ACC set in the softball edition of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash.

Sitting at 9-3 in league play, the Hokies look to keep pace with the top of the ACC when they square off against the Cavaliers. First pitch in Charlottesville is set for 6 pm tonight, 2 pm on Saturday and 4 pm on Sunday.

🔼 Back For More. Rising junior guard Leila Wells is back for more.

This week, the Chelsea, Mich., native announced she’ll return to Blacksburg for her third season with the Hokies after continuing to make a jump during her sophomore campaign.

Wells was one of only four Hokies to play in all 33 games for Tech last season, including starting 17 of those contests, averaging nearly 16 minutes a contest.
