Thousands of Hokie Nation Flock To Blacksburg For Hokie Hi Weekend
Good morning, Tech Fam. We love seeing our Hokies impacting the next generation!
What else are we covering in today’s edition, Hokies?
⏮️ Let’s Rewind
🏀 Fresh Faces
🦃 And much, much more!
🔼 Let’s Rewind. Hokie Hi: Weekend at Home wrapped up this past Sunday afternoon, concluding a four-day set that featured community events, athletic competitions and opportunities for Hokie Nation to reunite in Blacksburg once again.
Highlighted by head coach James Franklin’s first appearance on Worsham Field at Lane Stadium for the 2026 Spring Game, droves of maroon and orange could be seen enjoying the excitement of a weekend in southwest Virginia.
🔼 Fresh Face. The newest addition to the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program was officially signed on Monday as Mike Young and staff welcomed Koul Atak to the Hokie family.
A 6-foot-9 forward from Haltom City, Texas, Atak arrives in Blacksburg with three years of eligibility left after playing this past year as a redshirt freshman at Oklahoma. Last season, Atak played in 24 games for the Sooners who went 21-16 and participated in The Crown event in Las Vegas. He averaged 7.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and shot better than 46% from the field. From beyond the arc, Atak shot the ball at a 41% clip.
🔼 Welcome To The Fam. Coming off another NCAA Tournament appearance last season, Coach Duffy and staff are loading up for next year already, as the Hokies introduced two incoming transfers that will be joining the women’s program.
Lauren Hurst and Alyssa Latham, both transfers from the University of Tennessee, were officially introduced on Monday as the newest Hokies.
Hurst is a 6-foot-3 guard/forward, who played in 24 games last season as a true freshman with the Volunteers. Arriving with one season of eligibility, Latham spent the past two seasons at UT and her freshman year at Syracuse.
