🦃 And much, much more!

🔼 The Oregon Trail. No, we’re not referring to the old school video game, we’re talking to about the Virginia Tech track & field squad heading to NCAA Championships.

The Hokies blistered the track and runway at NCAA Regionals this past week in Lexington, Ky. to the tune of 10 national qualifiers.

Katie Bohlke (5000m), Kaitlyn Cook (triple jump), George Couttie (1500m), Maddox Hamm (pole vault), Christian Jackson (800m), Jule Lindner (steeplechase), Conner McClure (pole vault), Mariana Pestana (hammer), Nick Plant (1500m) and Chiara Sistermann (pole vault) all punched their tickets to Eugene.

Jimmy Mullen highlighted the weekend’s performance, finishing as the runner up at the 125kg with a 6-2 record, including five falls and one technical decision.

Noah Nininger (70kg) went 8-1 on the weekend, good for a third-place finish, while Drew Gorman (65kg) went 6-2 to grab a fourth-place finish.

🔼 Schedule Shifting. Virginia Tech announced adjustments to its future football series with former ACC foe, Maryland last week.

The two schools have mutually agreed to cancel the Sept. 18, 2027, game in Blacksburg and the Sept. 16, 2028, contest in College Park.

Virginia Tech will keep the September 19, 2026, road contest at Maryland in College Park and the September 15, 2029, home matchup in Blacksburg.

🔼 Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Coach Young and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team announced another addition to the 2026-27 roster with the signing of 6-foot-2 guard Ethan Copeland.

Copeland spent last season at Stetson where he averaged 15.0 points per game. Prior to making the jump to DI, Copeland played at Salt Lake Community College.

This past season, the Sunnyside, Washington native started all 33 of the Hatters’ contests and played 32 minutes per game. A prolific shooter, he made 109 3’s and shot better than 42% from beyond the arc.

🦃 THE FUTURE IS NOW

Virginia Tech has formed the search committee tasked with recruiting the next vice president and director of athletics.

Reporting to the president, the vice president and director of athletics works closely with university leadership to set and communicate a bold, forward-looking vision for Virginia Tech Athletics that positions the program for sustained relevance, competitiveness, and financial growth. This person will serve as the primary liaison to the university president, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors, and senior administration to ensure athletics strategy is tightly integrated with the broader university mission.
