Hokie Alum Brings Home Gold On World Stage
Good morning, Tech Fam. Our Hokies are ready to shine on the national stage!
What all are we covering in today’s edition, Hokies? Check it out below!
🥇 Golden Girl
🥎 Blazin’ Her Trail
⚾️ He’s Backkk
🦃 And much, much more!
🔼 Golden Girl. 10 years later and Kayla Arnett is still doing her thing.
The former Virginia Tech diving standout added to her array of success this past weekend, taking home gold at the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Arnett, who was a four-time ACC Most Valuable Women’s Diver honoree and a member of the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, is in her third season competing on the tour after an incredible career that has taken her around the world.
🔼 Blazin’ Her Trail. Four-time All-ACC pitcher Emma Lemley is back in the professional ranks as she was unveiled as part of the Carolina Blaze for the upcoming 2026 AUSL season.
The hurler was fifth in the league in appearances last year, taking the circle in 13 games in her debut season. She was drafted third overall by the Blaze in the 2025 AUSL Draft.
The 2026 season kicks off this week and runs throughout the summer months.
🔼 He’s Backkkk. A critical piece of the Virginia Tech pitching staff is coming back to the Hokies in 2027.
This week, rising junior right-hander Logan Eisenreich announced he will return to Blacksburg next spring.
Over the past two seasons, the South Riding, Va., native has piled up 70 innings pitched in 15 starts, while striking out 90 opposing hitters.
🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 87 DAYS
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host
VMI on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Not only did Steve Johnson (#87) make huge plays on the field for the Hokies, he also was a game changer off the field after he graduated.
Johnson was a clutch tight end for Tech from 1984-1987, earning back-to-back AP All-America Honorable Mention accolades in 1986 and 1987. He helped the Hokies capture their first bowl victory in the 1986 Peach Bowl, a game in which he scored a touchdown, and famously threw the football into the stands.
In 2013, the football practice fields next to Lane Stadium were renamed the Steve Johnson Practice Fields in honor of Johnson's contributions to the football program. He made a gift of $1,000,025 toward the construction costs of the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility. So why did Johnson include an extra $25 on the check? Well, it was payment for the football that he threw in the stands during the '86 Peach Bowl.
