🦃 BUILDING SOMETHING SPECIAL

Momentum continues to build across Virginia Tech Athletics.

Over the past several months, Hokie Nation has seen a series of significant developments that underscore the university's commitment to competing and succeeding at the highest level of college athletics. From the launch of Hokie Ventures and continued progress through the Invest to Win initiative to a historic $75 million commitment that will help shape the future of Virginia Tech Athletics, the department continues to position itself for long-term success in an evolving landscape.

Following last week's Virginia Tech Board of Visitors presentation, host Evan Hughes sat down with Deputy Athletics Director Danny White and Executive Associate AD / Athletics Chief Financial Officer Brandon Hall for an in-depth conversation about the state of Virginia Tech Athletics. The discussion covers Hokie Ventures, facility investments, department-wide success, transformational philanthropy and the continued momentum surrounding Hokie Football.

🔼 Starting Strong. It was a strong opening night for the the Virginia Tech track & field squad at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. at iconic Hayward Field.

Christian Jackson started the night off with a season-best performance in the 800m to punch his ticket to the event finals on Friday.

The duo of Maddox Hamm and Conner McClure capped off the night by both earning First Team All-America honors in the men’s pole vault.

🔼 Region’s Finest. And the resume keeps getting longer for Virginia Tech freshman sensation Ethan Ball.

On Tuesday, Ball added another honor to his list of growing accolades, being named to the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Atlantic All-Region First Team.

Ball was one of only three freshmen who earned 2026 Atlantic All-Region honors. Within Virginia Tech’s award history, Ball became the Hokies’ seventh student-athlete to garner the program’s eighth All-Region accolade during the last five seasons, including its first to have placed onto the First Team since 2022 (Drue Hackenberg, Jack Hurley, Tanner Schobel).

🔼 Helping Hands. Make it five in a row!

On the court, the Virginia Tech men’s tennis squad capped off the 2026 season with a championship at the UTR NIT Championship.

🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 86 DAYS

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host
VMI on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Playing alongside Tech Hall of Famers Frank Loria and Ron Davidson, #86 George Foussekis was a relentless defensive end that starred for the Hokies from 1965-1967.

While he earned Honorable Mention All-American accolades in 1965, his best season came in 1966, leading a legendary Tech defense en route to second team All-American honors. At the time, he became only the third All-American in school history (joining Carroll Dale and Bob Schweickert) and the first defensive player to earn AA Honors. Foussekis helped lead the Hokies to the 1966 Liberty Bowl; that was only their second bowl game in school history and first since 1946.

In 1967, Foussekis was once again named an Honorable Mention All-American. Foussekis was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
