🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 79 DAYS

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host
VMI on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.

A mainstay in the Hokies’ offensive line room over the past five seasons, #79 Johnny Garrett is back in Blacksburg for his final year at Tech.

Last season, Garrett made 10 starts for the Hokies, totaling over 600 offensive snaps and allowing just two sacks during that span.

In total, the 6-5, 325-pound standout has played in 35 games in his career entering the 2026 season.

🔼 Leading The Way. Two Virginia Tech alumni have agreed to serve as initial directors of Hokies Ventures upon its incorporation and lead the formation of the organization’s board of directors.

Hokie Ventures is a newly approved, nonprofit corporation that is established to support the long-term growth and competitiveness of Virginia Tech Athletics through modernized revenue generation, strategic investments, and athletics donor relations. 

Brad Hobbs ’90, CEO of Air Control Concepts, formerly Hobbs & Associates, the nation’s largest platform of leading HVAC, electrical and controls companies, and Ted Hanson ’91, CEO and director at the technology and digital engineering company Everforth, will lead the effort.

🔼 Welcome To The Fam. Bolstering its competitive edge within its developmental pitching program, Virginia Tech baseball head coach John Szefc formally welcomed Josh Reynolds as the Hokies’ new director of pitching performance and baseball analytics this week.

An established mind in the game with a plethora of power conference coaching experience, Reynolds joins Virginia Tech after spending the previous two seasons at Tennessee where he served as assistant coach (2026) as well as director of baseball operations and pitching performance (2025). Reynolds – who coached alongside Szefc on Brad Hill’s 2011 and 2012 staffs at Kansas State – was the associate head coach (2016-21) and interim head coach (2021-22) at Northwestern prior to syncing with Cincinnati as assistant coach in 2024.

🔼 A Hokie Through And Through. After nearly four decades of dedicated service to Virginia Tech Athletics and the Hokie Club, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Major Gifts David Everett will retire at the end of this month.

Everett’s retirement marks the close of a 38-year run with Virginia Tech Athletics that began as a student-athlete and evolved into one of the department’s most impactful and respected fundraising careers.
