🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 67 DAYS
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host
VMI on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.

During an era in which the Hokies were known for a stifling defensive unit, #6️⃣7️⃣ Don Thacker was a standout defensive tackle for Virginia Tech.
A Hokie from 1965-67, Thacker's strong play helped the Hokies earn a trip to the 1966 Liberty Bowl, which was only their second bowl game in school history.
He was part of the 1967 squad that featured arguably the best defense in school history at that time; it included All-Americans George Foussekis, Frank Loria and Mike Widger along with other standouts like Ron Davidson and Frank Beamer. Thacker was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 1967.
🔼 Called To The Hall. It’s a call that these Hokie legends won’t ever forget.
On Monday Afternoon, Director of Athletics Whit Babcock officially announced seven new members of the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, who will be enshrined on Saturday, October 3.
Slated for induction are Jerry Cheynet (former head coach and facilities staff), Chris Martin (wrestling), Kylie McGoldrick (softball), Yavgeniy Olhovsky (men’s track & field), Martina Schultze (women’s track & field), Logan Thomas (football) and Murielle Tiernan (women’s soccer).
The seven-member class increases the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame to 247 members.
The seven new members will be officially inducted at The Inn at Virginia Tech, and will be recognized during halftime of the Hokies’ football game against Pitt on Friday, Oct. 2 at Lane Stadium.
