With training camp less than two weeks away, there’s no better time to get to know some of the new faces who will be putting on Tech jerseys for the first time this fall.

🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 3️⃣6️⃣ DAYS

Carter Wiley patrolled the defensive backfield at safety for Virginia Tech from 1984-1987 and was a critical piece in the Hokies’ 1986 Peach Bowl Championship season.

He played in 31 games over his final three seasons, racking up 270 tackles, 54 pass breakups, eight INTs and four fumble recoveries.

He was a three-time Honorable Mention All-American for the Hokies.

🔼 Game Changer. The game has been changed for Virginia Tech Track & Field and Cross Country.

On Thursday, the Hokies announced the largest gift commitment in program history, a $1.2 million philanthropic gift from Martha and Paul Seufer of Lynchburg, Virginia.

The record-breaking contribution will establish the Champions For Life area within the lobby entrance of Rector Field House, where Virginia Tech will recognize program alumni whose accomplishments extend beyond the field of competition.

The gift will also support the construction of the Seufer Family Pavilion, a new covered space at Virginia Tech’s outdoor practice facility designed to enhance the student-athlete experience by providing a dedicated area for training, recovery and team activities.

🔼 Preseason Praise. This week, senior defensive tackle Kemari Copeland was named to the All-ACC Preseason Football Team.

Copeland started all 12 games for the Hokies last season, registering 48 tackles (11 solo) including 7.5 TFLs. The Virginia Beach product led the team with 4.5 sacks while recording an interception and a quarterback hurry.

Known for his weight room prowess, Copeland recently broke the all-time bench press record at Tech, benching 510 pounds.

🏈 More On The Preseason Accolades

🔼 Solid Start. Virginia Tech women’s golf standout Valentine Delon teed it up with the best players in the world at Thursday’s first round of the AIG Women’s Open.

Delon’s opening round included two birdies and she sits at just two shots off the projected cut for the weekend at 4-over par.

🔼 Making Waves. It may be the summer months, but the Virginia Tech swimming & diving program continues to make waves among some of the best swimmers in the world.

With Hokies competing at both the USA Toyota National Championships and Central American and Caribbean Games, Tech had huge performances with 10 top-10 performances over the past two days.

Highlighting the action was Javier Nuñez, who had two top-10 relay finishes and earned a runner-up in the 100m free at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Fellow Hokie Emily Santos also earned a silver medal, finishing second in the 50m breaststroke.
