🔼 Golden Boys. The historic summer of the Virginia Tech wrestling program continued this past weekend as the Hokies brought home two gold medals from Aaron Seidel and Bo Bassett, along with a bronze from Ryan Burton, at the U20 World Championships in Slovakia.
The trio of Hokie wrestlers combined to 14-1 at the event and earned enough points between to three of them to outscore all but six countries at the event.
🔼 Future Star. As if that wasn’t enough gold medals for the weekend, incoming swimming standout Doruk Yogurtcuoglu added to the weekend haul for the Hokies.
The soon-to-be Hokie took home gold at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:10.79.
🔼 Seventh Heaven. It was dominant Sunday on the pitch for the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team, rolling to a 7-0 victory over visiting Howard.
It was Tech’s first 7-0 victory since the 1973 season.
The Hokies controlled the match from the opening whistle, taking a 2-0 advantage into halftime before adding five goals in the second half.
Virginia Tech's attack was led by sophomore defender Jaden Chan Tack, who found the back of the net twice on three shots. Yanis Belatrache, Chase Vazquez and Noe Uwimana each added a goal, while Dagur Traustason and Mehdi Kettani also scored off the bench.
🔼 And Another One. The resume for Virginia Tech defensive tackle Kemari Copeland continues to grow longer and longer with each passing day.
Late last week, Copeland was named to the Bednarik Award watch list as announced Friday by the Maxwell Football Club. The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
Copeland, who was previously named to the watch lists for the Nagurski Award and the Outland Trophy, was named to the All-ACC Preseason Team, following his All-ACC Third Team nod in 2025. Copeland registered 48 tackles last season including 7.5 TFLs.

🔼 Drawing Even. The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in 2026, earning a second straight 2-2 draw, this time against former conference foe, Maryland, on Sunday afternoon.
With the tie, the Hokies move to 2-0-2 so far this fall.
Peyton May and Riley Karpinski were the goal scorers on the evening for Tech.
🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 1️⃣2️⃣ DAYS
Prior to the arrival of Maurice Deshazo in Blacksburg, the Hokies had never been to consecutive bowl games.
That all changed when Deshazo took the reins for Frank Beamer and led the Hokies to back-to-back bowls in his final two seasons (1993 and 1994).
Deshazo’s best season was during his junior year when he ranked fifth in the country in passing efficiency and led Tech to a 9-3 record, including a dominant 45-20 victory over Indiana in the Indepedence Bowl.
He was inducted in the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
