🔼 Packed House. A new era of Virginia Tech football will begin exactly the way it should — under the lights, in front of a packed Lane Stadium.
Virginia Tech Athletics announced Monday that the Hokies' 2026 season opener against VMI on Saturday, Sept. 5, is officially sold out, setting the stage for an electric opening night in Blacksburg and the highly anticipated debut of head coach James Franklin.
Fans still seeking tickets for the sold-out VMI and Pitt matchups are encouraged to visit SeatGeek, the official fan-to-fan ticket marketplace of Virginia Tech Athletics.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.

🔼 On The Cusp. With just over a month remaining in the 2026 Major League Baseball season, former Hokie standout TJ Rumfield is on the cusp of a bit of history.
With 32 games left on the Rockies schedule, Rumfield needs just five RBIs to set a record for most runs driven in by a Virginia Tech alum in their rookie season.
Rumfield currently has 60 RBIs this season, just four behind Kerry Carpenter’s 64 from 2023.
🔼 Record Breaker. Before returning to campus to start classes this fall, sophomore Eliza Tan of the Virginia Tech swimming & diving program took care of some business in the pool this past weekend.
Swimming at SUKMA 2026 (the Malaysian National Games), Tan lit up the pool, setting a national Malaysian record, not once, but twice in the 100m freestyle.
🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 1️⃣2️⃣ DAYS
Yesterday, we focused on offense, today, we’re shifting to the defensive side of the ball with former All-American linebacker, Xavier Adibi.
Adibi was a force for the Hokies during his standout career from 2004-2007.
He played in 47 games over that span, racking up 291 tackles, 30 TFLs and 11 sacks, to go along with eight interceptions and 32 passes broken up.
He was a two-time All-ACC selection and during his senior season earned All-American accolades en route to being a fourth round selection by the Houston Texans in the 2008 NFL Draft.
He was inducted into the Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
