Throughout the summer, we’ve been counting down the days to the return
of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host VMI in front of a
sold out Lane Stadium on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.
9️⃣ Days Away. One of our own returned home this spring to join the Hokie Football staff when former All-American Anthony Midget was named an assistant coach on Coach Franklin’s staff.
Midget was a four-year letterman from 1996-99 and three-year starter at cornerback under head coach Frank Beamer, helping Virginia Tech to the 1999 BCS National Championship game.
He was a first team All-Big East honoree and third team All-American as a senior in 1999, also serving as a team captain for the Hokies.
🔼 Talkin’ Ball. Tonight, Tech Talk Live returns to the air with the first episode of the season.
For tonight’s season opener, The Hokie Way is putting on a Countdown to Kickoff Bash that will feature Tech Talk Live at 6 p.m. and live music from The Mantra at 8 p.m. In partnership with McClain’s, a percentage of food sales at the event will go toward The Hokie Way’s Hokies for Community initiative and a portion of funds raised will be donated to the Lunch Pail Defense Foundation.
Seating begins at 5 p.m.
🔼 Leading The Way. The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has approved Ted Hanson ’91 to serve as its representative to the 10-member board of directors for Hokie Ventures, marking another significant step forward in the development of the university-affiliated nonprofit organization established to strengthen the long-term growth and competitiveness of Virginia Tech Athletics.
The board brings together an accomplished group of business executives, entrepreneurs and university leaders whose collective experience will help advance Hokie Ventures' mission of creating new revenue opportunities, pursuing strategic investments, strengthening donor relations and building a modern enterprise positioned to support VT Athletics in the rapidly evolving landscape of college sports.

🔼 Bigger Than A Game. While the Hokies can’t wait for kickoff, it’s time like these that truly mean everything.
This past weekend, members of the Virginia Tech football program spent time with eight children and their families from the Carilion Children’s Clinic.
Each child created a one-of-a-kind t-shirt for their student-athlete partner, and they’ll wear them during home games as Carilion Children’s honorary captains.
🔼 Giving Back. For the past four years, Carleigh Wenzel has made an incredible impact on the court for the Virginia Tech women’s basketball program.
This week, Wenzel gathered with the local community for a school supply drive for children and families are in need of assistance.

Tonight, the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will be looking for a five-game unbeaten streak to start the 2026 season.
