Throughout the summer, we’ve been counting down the days to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host VMI in front of a sold out Lane Stadium on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.

8️⃣ Days Away. One of the more unique Hokie careers may belong to Virginia native and Oscar Smith High School alum, Greg Boone.

Arriving in Blacksburg as a highly-touted QB in the mid-2000s, Boone transitioned to tight end and became a versatile weapon for the Hokies.

Boone appeared in 50 games during his Virginia Tech career, finishing with 45 receptions for 588 yards and three touchdowns. His quarterback background also allowed the Hokies to get creative, most notably with the legendary “Wild Turkey” package that occasionally put Boone behind center.

🔼 Triple Dipper. Let’s be honest, you didn’t want to work today anyway, right?

Well, that’s a good thing because Friday is a busy one in Blacksburg, with Virginia Tech fans getting plenty of chances to break out the maroon and orange.

Volleyball officially gets its 2026 season underway with a doubleheader at Cassell Coliseum as part of the Hokie Invitational. Tech opens the day against Kent State at 10:30 a.m. before returning to the court at 6:30 p.m. to take on William & Mary.

Across campus, Virginia Tech men's soccer will look to keep things rolling when Kentucky visits Thompson Field at 6 p.m.

🔼 Hats Off. It was a banner night for senior women’s soccer standout Anna Weir.

Weir became the 15th Hokie in program history to record a hat trick on Thursday night, scoring all three goals in Tech’s 3-1 road victory over William & Mary.

At 3-0-2 this fall, It marks the second time in the past three seasons that the Hokies have go unbeaten through the first five matches.
