Throughout the summer, we’ve been counting down the days to the return of Virginia Tech Football this fall. The Hokies will host VMI in front of a sold out Lane Stadium on September 5 at 7:30 p.m.
5️⃣ Days Away. One of the most beloved Hokies of all-time can really be summed up in three words: He just won.
The one thing you can't deny about Tyrod Taylor is that he was a winner. In his four years at Tech, he won three ACC Titles (2007, 2008 & 2010). He also brought home a Chick Fil-A Bowl Championship and an Orange Bowl Championship (VT's first and only BCS Bowl victory). He was twice named MVP of the ACC Championship Game (2008 and 2010) and was honored as the ACC Player of the Year in 2010.
In his Hokie career, Taylor appeared in 50 games and finished with 7,017 passing yards and 44 touchdowns, while adding 2,196 rushing yards and 23 scores on the ground.

Virginia Tech kicks off the James Franklin era on Saturday night as the Hokies welcome VMI to a sold-out Lane Stadium. The 7:30 p.m. opener will mark Franklin’s first game leading Tech and the first meeting between the two programs since 1984.
It also renews one of the Commonwealth’s oldest rivalries, with Saturday representing the 80th all-time meeting between the Hokies and Keydets.
🔼 Defending Home Turf. The Virginia Tech Men’s Soccer team used two second-half goals to pull away from visiting Kentucky on Friday night for a 3-0 victory, giving the Hokies their first-ever win over the Wildcats.
The scoring started early with Noe Uwimana finding the back of the net in the 12th minute of the match. The Hokies added insurance goals from Parker Polk (74th minute) and Yanis Belatrache (88th minute) to seal the victory.
🔼 Pickin’ Up A Pair. Virginia Tech Volleyball opened its 2026 season with a strong showing at the Hokie Invitational, picking up two wins over the weekend at Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies started Friday with a 3-0 sweep of Kent State, led by Reese Hazelton with 13 kills in the victory.
On Saturday, the Hokies rolled to a 3-1 defeat of Coppin State. Newcomer Destiny Walker led the way with 17 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double as a Hokie.

🔼 Claiming The Capital. The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon in the nation’s capital.
The Hokies used two goals in the first 55 minutes of action to propel themselves to a 2-1 victory over #22 Georgetown, marking the program’s first victory over a ranked opponent since the 2024 season.
Tech was powered by goals from Gabby Ciocca and Eliana Salama, who both netted their second of the season.
