🏈 FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

After a dominant season-opening win last weekend, Tech football will be looking to claim consecutive home wins as they welcome Old Dominion to Lane Stadium tomorrow at noon ET. The matchup will serve as James Franklin’s second appearance in front of the Hokie faithful as head coach after what was a strong debut against the Keydets this past weekend.

To stay prepared for what is expected to be another can’t-miss contest, here are Five Things to Know for an unforgettable visit to Blacksburg and Lane Stadium this upcoming Saturday.

🔼 High Praise For Hawk. Virginia Tech running back Marcellous Hawkins Jr. has been named to the watch list for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, recognizing his leadership on the field, within the Virginia Tech football program and in the community.

The award, presented annually by the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Foundation, honors a college football player who best demonstrates a commitment to leadership, integrity, sportsmanship and service to others.

Hawkins has become one of the veteran leaders of the Hokies' program, earning the respect of his teammates through the way he approaches his work each day. He has also made an impact away from the field, regularly giving his time to community service and looking for opportunities to help others.

🔼 Low Country Layout. This week, matchups were unveiled for the 2026 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic, an event with six teams playing three standalone games, will be played on Nov. 20 and 22 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. Joining Virginia Tech at the event are are Dayton, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, and Utah.

The Hokies will face Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. in a contest that will be shown on ESPN2. Two days later, Tech will take on Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.

🔼 Pro Pipeline. This Sunday, a plethora of former Hokie standouts will be taking the field on NFL rosters yet again.

As the 2026 NFL season gets underway, Tech has 13 alums on 53-man rosters and seven more on practice squads as kickoff nears.

Lacing them up this weekend will be Divine Deablo (LB, Atlanta Falcons), Aeneas Peebles (DT, Baltimore Ravens), Chuck Clark (S, Detroit Lions), Tyrod Taylor (QB, Green Bay Packers), Wyatt Teller (G, Houston Texans), Bhayshul Tuten (RB, Jacksonville Jaguars), Chamarri Conner (S, Kansas City Chiefs), Christian Darrisaw (OT, Minnesota Vikings), Tremaine Edmunds (LB, New York Giants), Brock Hoffman (G/C, Pittsburgh Steelers), Joey Slye (K, Tennessee Titans), Jaylin Lane (WR/KR, Washington Commanders), and Tim Settle (DT, Washington Commanders).
