The showdown in College Park is just days away.
In this week’s edition of the Level Seven Podcast, Hokies broadcasters Bill Roth and Mike Burnop have insight on the game and Tech’s 2-0 start to the season.
🔼 Road Trippin’. Tomorrow, the Virginia Tech Football program faces its first road test of the James Franklin era when they travel to College Park to face an old foe, Maryland, in a Saturday night showdown.
It will be the 33rd meeting between the two programs, but first regular season matchup since 2013. Saturday night kicks off the first off a four-game home-and-home series between the two schools.
Tech’s defensive unit will look to continue its disruptive start to the year as they’ve piled up 32 TFLs and 12 sacks through the first two games.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
🔼 Young Gun. With the less than 15 minutes remaining, freshman Riley Karpinski unleashed a beautiful goal into the top left corner of the net to give the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team a thrilling 2-1 road victory over Pitt in the ACC opener for both sides.
It marks the second time in three seasons that the Hokies have started 1-0 in league play.
Tech remains unbeaten on the road this season at 3-0-1 away from home this year.

This week, Virginia Tech Athletics announced the hiring of Jake Lyman to the role of assistant director of broadcasting for Virginia Tech Sports Network.
Lyman’s duties will include play-by-play broadcasting for the Hokies’ women’s basketball and baseball teams as well as assisting with day-to-day operations of the Virginia Tech Sports Network, hosting digital content, and overseeing podcast efforts.
Lyman, who graduated from Virginia Tech’s sports media and analytics program in 2022, has been the voice of Vanderbilt’s women’s basketball program for the past four seasons.
