🔼 Grand Opening. In the first game of a new era of Virginia Tech football, the Hokies scored early and often against VMI, rolling to a 73-3 victory at Lane Stadium in front of a full house on Saturday night.
Tech scored on its first six possessions, built a 45-0 halftime lead and piled up 619 yards of offense. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer looked right at home in his Hokie debut, completing 17 of 20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
The running backs provided plenty of fireworks, too. Jeffrey Overton Jr. topped 100 yards and scored twice, including a 50-yard touchdown on Tech’s opening drive, while Marcellous Hawkins Jr. found the end zone three times.
The defense was just as dominant, holding VMI to only 83 total yards as Virginia Tech delivered a pretty convincing first impression of its new era.

🔼 Point Earned. Road points are especially critical in conference play and that’s exactly what the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team earned on Saturday night, battling to a 1-1 tie at NC State.
The Hokies got a first-half goal from David Skovbog-Andersen to take an early lead, but the Wolfpack got one back early in the second half to even the score.
Virginia Tech’s defense allowed just three shots on goal all night long.
🔼 Opening Act. It was quite a showing for the Virginia Tech cross country squads at the season-opening VT Invitational this past weekend.
Both teams rolled to victories, led by the women’s squad, who swept the top-four spots in the race en route to the team win.
🔼 Friday Night Fun. Virginia Tech Volleyball capped off its trip south to the Winthrop Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of in-state foe Old Dominion on Friday night.
The Hokies grabbed momentum from the start, winning the opening set, 25-17, before finishing it off with set victories of 25-23 and 25-19.
Adeline Hundl led the Hokies with 11 kills, while Destiny Walker added nine kills and nine digs. Virginia Tech also made its presence felt at the net, piling up 10.5 blocks, including six from Frances Torres.
🏈 LEVELING UP
Virginia Tech Athletics and Virginia Credit Union have announced an enhanced partnership that will bring Virginia Credit Union’s logo onto the field between the 20 and 30 yard lines at Lane Stadium, building on a connection between one of Virginia’s most recognized financial institutions and the Commonwealth’s most iconic sports venue.
Beginning with the 2026 football season, Virginia Credit Union’s branding will be prominently displayed on the field at Lane Stadium, providing the credit union with one of the most visible brand positions in collegiate athletics in Virginia and placing its brand directly in front of Hokie Nation and a national TV audience on game days.
